Walk to Filisur

Take the train to the Davos Monstein train station (approx. 15 minutes). Start your walk by crossing the lofty Wiesener Viaduct which towers over the Landwasser River, you will continue through the Zügen Gorge to reach the scenic mountain village of Filisur.
Jump on the Rhaetian Railway from Filisur to the historic, picture-perfect town of Bergün (approx. 20 minutes). In the evening take a stroll through the mountain village as you are transported back in time, marvelling at its traditional houses, decorated with ornate frescoes and large bay windows.

Allow enough time to complete your walk as the times provided are solely walking times, and breaks have not been included.
Parts of the path are for shared use, for hikers and mountain bikers. Stay alert and make sure to make space for the other people using the trail.
Some of the fields may have cows in; they are not aggressive but take care not to startle them, and pass around them with a wide berth.
In early spring/summer there may still be patches of snow. Walk around where it is possible, and otherwise place your feet carefully and use walking poles if you have them.

START at the Davos Monstein train station. Follow the road to the village of Schmelzboden, where you will find the Graubünden Mining Museum and the Schmelzboden restaurant. The Zügen Gorge path starts here, follow in the footsteps of the builders who made the passage through this gorge possible.
From Schmelzboden, the hiking trail gently descends into the Zügen Gorge and the Landwasser River. Cross the Silberberg mountain, where zinc and lead were once mined, as you follow the Landwasser River.
After the Davos Wiesen train station, if you wish stop at the Statiönli restaurant stop for a break. CROSS the Landwasser River on the Wiesner Viaduct, via which the Rhaetian Railway and pedestrians can cross the Landwasser Gorge. Hike through the forest along a nature trail, (it has stations that educate walkers on local plants and animals). Reach the Schönboden rest area with its picnic areas and firepits. BEAR LEFT to follow the path to Filisur train station. The path crosses over meadows and takes you into the village and its train station.

For Alpine hiking, you need to be prepared for all types of weather, we recommend; sturdy hiking boots, warm clothes and a waterproof/wind-break layer are all required, as is plenty of sun-cream.
Walking poles would be helpful on some of these ascents and descents.
Ensure your phone is fully charged; if you doubt the battery will last throughout the hike, it will be beneficial to bring a power bank.
This walk is isolated with few opportunities to buy food or water so be sure to bring enough with you.
