This trail is as challenging as it is spectacular! It starts with a gentle ascent on a broad forest road that leads you into the Val Roseg. Once you reach the Hotel Restaurant Roseg Gletscher, you follow the nice single trail through the wide glacial riverbed straight towards "Lej da Vadret" (glacier lake) (10,5 km and 406 m elevation gain). Small cairns lead the way (in addition to the usual hiking path markings). The glacial panorama is simply stunning and invites you to pause every now and then to admire it. Halfway along the lake, the route turns right and goes uphill towards the Coaz hut. When you reach the signpost at 2'645 m, you can choose between visiting the Coaz hut (+1.2 km) or continuing directly towards the Fuorcla Surlej. The great single trail across alpine pastures gently ascends up to the highest point of the tour at the Fuorcla Surlej (2'755 m). The hut offers a big terrace with a stunning view of the Bernina and glacier massif as well as a view - on the other side - across the lakescape. A rocky, narrow trail takes you downhill back towards the Hotel Restaurant Roseg Gletscher. From here you have 3 options to leave the valley: a) the same forest road that brought you here, b) a single trail through the Swiss pine forest (turn off the forest road right behind the large bridge, follow the signposts) or c) a comfortable ride by horse carriage.
