For decades, a cable car has been carrying workers at the Vorderrhein power stations up to the Tgom and then in a second section up to the Nalps reservoir. Nowadays the by now vintage lift up to Stavel sut il Tgom can also be booked by ski tourers and snowshoe tourists. Yet climbing up on foot is definitely worthwhile.Starting from the noticeboard in Surrein, the pink signs show the way: you go past the houses in Surrein and come to the edge of the forest. The section through the forest is classified as a quiet area for wildlife: it's quite likely that deer will cross your path. Occasional gaps in the otherwise dense pine forest will give you distant views of the villages of Sedrun and Rueras.Once you are through the trees, it's not far to the Tgom top station. Then you start the equally enjoyable climb up a wide ridge to the Stavel Sisum mountain hut. From there, you have a panoramic view of a string of stunning peaks, from Piz Gannaretsch and mighty Piz Muraun to the Krüzlistock. You can also see down into the side valleys of Val Nalps and Val Strem. You follow the same route back down to the valley.
