The unmistakable landscape of the Swiss National Park and the Engadine is the backdrop for these delightful circular tours along the route of the Engadine Cycling Marathon.

The course of the route and the many variations make this racing bike tour a challenge for hobby cyclists and cycling professionals alike. Depending on whether you choose the complete lap of 214 km and 2889 metres of altitude difference or one of the shorter laps of 97 or 117 km and want to conquer two or four passes beyond the 2000-metre mark.

Turn-by-turn directions

While the 97-kilometre distance is also doable for well-trained "Gümmelers", the complete 214-kilometre loop is a very special challenge. Shortly after the start and finish in Zernez, which the long-distance runners pass not far from the finish line, there is another refreshment stop. Four kilometres later, the biggest challenge of the day so far begins in Susch with the ascent to the 2383-metre-high Flüela. Although the pass is the roof of the Engadin Cycling Marathon, the absolute test of endurance awaits in the finale.

The 13-kilometre descent to Davos is fast and demanding. The route continues downhill through the Landwasser Valley - only just 30 kilometres after the Flüela is there another short but steep climb to Davos Wiesen, before another fast descent brings the participants to the lowest point of the Engadin Cycling Marathon, Alvaneu Bad. There, at 957 metres, the real challenge of the Engadin Cycling Marathon begins, fortified by another refreshment station. At 2312 metres, the Albula Pass is not quite as high as the Flüela, but its 26 kilometres hardly leave any time to catch one's breath - especially since, in addition to the climb, the route along the Albula line of the Rhaetian Railway, also part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, is breathtaking.

On the Albula, 30 kilometres before the finish, there is the last refreshment of the day, followed by the descent "home". First on the tracks of the Tour de Suisse through the larches of the Engadine to La Punt, then on the Engadine road via Zuoz and S-chanf down to Zernez for the big reception at the finish area of the Engadine Cycling Marathon.
