A close-up view of the glaciers - in the past, today and in the future. This impressive hiking tour goes from the Corvatsch Murtèl middle station across the Fourcla Surlej to the Chamanna Coaz high above the Val Roseg valley and down to Lej da Vadret to Pontresina.

First take the Corvatsch cable car to the Murtèl middle station at 2,702m (8,865ft), from where you can already enjoy wonderful views of the Upper Engadin lake plateau. If you would like a full panorama, continue up to the Corvatsch top station, and after stopping off briefly, take one of the next gondolas back to the middle station. Then follow the wide path and, after half an hour or so, you will reach Fuorcla Surlej, where you are treated to one of the most spectacular panoramas in the Alps. Spread out in front of you is a vast arena of ice and rock, with Piz Tschierva, Piz Morteratsch, Piz Bernina with the famous Biancograt, Piz Roseg and the Sella mountain range, in the background, surrounded by impressive glaciers. Scattered about the Fuorcla Surlej are silent witnesses to the last ice age: round rocks scarred by the ice masses, with small lakes in between. It is here, on the Fuorcla Surlej that the high-altitude trail actually begins. The route heads towards the majestic glacier backdrop and after walking for about an hour, you reach the Plaun dals Süts, immediately above the Lej de Vadret glacial lake. The path leads to the Coaz hut, which is perched on a rocky platform right next to the glacier. Suitably revived by a bowl of delicious home-made barley soup, a slice of freshly baked cake or some local sausage and cheese, you then climb towards the glacier. And here, there is plenty to discover: for example, small glacier mills or moulins, minerals, pioneer plants and a glacier snout. Back at the hut, you retrace your steps for approx. 20 minutes until you reach the first fork in the path, which leads down to the Lej da Vadret. The glacial lake that has formed as a result of the melting ice masses has developed within the last fifty years or so. The trail continues along the lake before reaching the glacier foreland of the Roseg and Tschierva Glaciers. Finally, after a hike of some four to five hours through the enchanting beauty of this high valley, you reach the Hotel Restaurant Roseg Gletscher. After refreshments at the restaurant it is time to decide whether to continue the hike to Pontresina in comfort by horse-drawn carriage (approx. 1 hour) or on foot (approx. 1½ hours).
