St. Antönien: round hike in a moor landscape
The perfect hike in the summer through cool and rustling forest up to the extensive moor Grossried.
easy
Distance 9.9 km
Near the bus-stop 'Platz' of the ancient village St. Antönien there are several restaurants to take some refreshment before you start the hike up the hill. Follow the signpost to Stels/Salfsch zigzag uphill. Soon you walk past the cosy mountain lodge 'Michelshof'. Follow the road to 'Aschüel'. Beside the lake 'Soppenseeli' there is a nice place to barbecue. From there the path leads over the first marshy ground into the forest. Follow the trail on the left over roots through sparse spruce forest and bushes of blueberries. You leave the forest at 'Grossried' and get to the plain of 'Grossried'. Keep on the right and cross the marsh, then follow the footpath in the direction of St. Antönien over the wooden bridges which lead across the moor back to 'Soppenseeli' and to St. Antönien.
Author’s recommendation
If you feel like it (especially if you travel by public transport) there is the possibility to rent a scooter at the inn 'Michelshof' and cycle down to Küblis (about 1 hour) or to Schiers (about 2 hours).
